Beechwold is the northern end of Clintonville, reaching from Henderson Road up to Morse Road between the Olentangy River and the railroad tracks. It takes its name from Beechwalde, the estate Joseph A. Jeffrey created here in 1906, and its housing ranges from Cape Cod starter homes to the stone, brick and stucco houses of the Old Beechwold Historic District. Bishop Watterson and Whetstone high schools both sit within it, and a glacial ravine cuts through it from east to west. We handle driveway breakdowns, school-lot jump starts and cars that give up on Morse Road. Trucks from our Harrisburg Pike yard generally get to Beechwold in 20–40 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How does a truck get from the southwest side up to Beechwold?

The quickest path is usually State Route 315 north to the Henderson Road exit, then east across the Olentangy toward High Street. For addresses near the railroad or on the east side, the driver may use I-71 instead and get off at exit 115, Cooke Road and Indianola Avenue, or exit 116 at Morse Road. Share the house number, the nearest cross street and whether the car is in a driveway, a garage or at the curb.

I live in Old Beechwold. Is there anything the driver should know?

A landmark helps. The historic district is bounded by Rathbone Avenue, High Street, Beaumont Road and the river, and the brick entrance gate from a zoo that operated here for only five months in 1905 still stands on High Street at Beechwold Road. Telling the driver you are just west of that gate gets them onto the right street fast. If the car sits back in a garage or down a long drive, say so; a wheel-lift truck can reach tight spots a flatbed cannot.

My car won't start in the lot after a game or practice at Bishop Watterson or Whetstone. Can you help?

Yes. Bishop Watterson is on East Cooke Road and Whetstone is at 4405 Scenic Drive, and long evenings at games and practices leave plenty of cars with drained batteries. A jump start with a battery test usually gets you moving from the parking space, and if the battery is worn out, we can often replace it right there. Tell dispatch which lot and which entrance you used, so the driver pulls straight up to the right row instead of circling the campus. Parents waiting with a student can stay in the car until the truck pulls up.

What should I do if I stall on SR-315 or I-71 near Henderson or Morse?

State Route 315 runs along the river on Beechwold's west side and I-71 lies to the east, and both move quickly at rush hour. Roll onto the shoulder or up the Henderson Road, Cooke Road or Morse Road ramp if you can make it, turn on the hazard lights and remain in your seat with the belt on. If you are stuck in a lane or someone is injured, call 911 before you call us. Then tell our dispatcher the direction you were going and the nearest exit.

A stranger's car is parked across my Beechwold driveway. Will you tow it?

We cannot tow from a public street on a resident's request; the Columbus Division of Police has to decide that, so call their non-emergency number and ask for an officer. Things change on private property: a business, church or apartment owner with signs posted to Ohio's requirements can authorize removal of unauthorized cars, and we provide that private-property towing with documentation. Note the plate number and how long the car has been there before you call. If the car blocks traffic or looks abandoned after a crash, tell the police that too.

What happens to my car after a Beechwold tow, and how do you price it?

You pick the destination: a mechanic on High Street or Indianola, a dealer, one of our partner repair shops or back home. If the shop is closed for the night, the car can stay at our Harrisburg Pike lot for the per-day storage rate and go over in the morning. Dispatch gives you the complete price from our rate card on the phone before the tow starts. You can pay by card or cash, and the itemized invoice is yours for warranty or insurance paperwork.
