Towing in Hilltop, Columbus

Lockouts, dead batteries and tows across the west side, from a yard just down the road.

Call (740) 812-9489

The Hilltop is the big residential stretch of the west side, rising above the Scioto valley with West Broad Street as its spine and Sullivant Avenue and Hague Avenue carrying cross-town traffic. It is also close to home for us: the yard on Harrisburg Pike sits on the southwest side just below it, so a Hilltop call is a short run, typically 20–40 minutes. Most calls here are driveway dead batteries, lockouts outside the corner stores and fast-food lots on Broad, and cars that need a tow to a neighborhood mechanic.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a tow truck take to reach the Hilltop?

Usually 20–40 minutes. Trucks leave our Harrisburg Pike yard and come north a short distance into the neighborhood, so the drive itself is brief; the wait mostly depends on whether a driver is free or finishing another job. When you call, give the street and the nearest cross street off Broad or Sullivant, and dispatch will tell you when to expect the truck and call back if that changes. A driver finishing a job nearby can sometimes get to you sooner.

Do you handle lockouts and dead batteries along West Broad Street?

Yes, and they are the most common Hilltop calls we get. Keys locked in a car at a gas station, a battery that dies in a grocery lot, a flat tire outside a restaurant: a driver can usually fix it on the spot with a lockout kit, a jump pack or your spare. For a jump, the driver also tests the battery and tells you whether it will hold a charge, so you know whether a replacement is the better call.

What should I do if I break down on I-70 west of downtown?

Coast onto the right shoulder or the nearest ramp, put your flashers on, and keep your belt fastened while traffic goes by; if the car stopped in a live lane and you cannot move it, call 911 before anything else. When you are safe, call us with the direction you were heading and the last exit you passed. On the interstate the car goes onto a flatbed so the driver can clear the shoulder quickly.

Can you tow a car from a narrow Hilltop driveway or back alley?

Most of the time. Plenty of Hilltop homes have single-car driveways, detached garages and alleys behind the houses, so tell dispatch how the car is parked and whether a truck can reach it from the street or the alley. A wheel-lift truck with dollies can pull a car out of a short drive, and if it sits deep in a garage the driver can winch it to the opening first. Our light-duty towing crews are set up for exactly this kind of job.

A car is blocking my Hilltop driveway. Can you tow it?

Only a police officer can order a car removed from a public street, so call the Columbus Division of Police non-emergency line and ask for an officer to come out. We cannot tow a vehicle off the street on a resident's say-so. If the car is on private property, such as an apartment lot or business, the property owner can have it removed when Ohio-required signs are posted, and we handle that private-property towing with records for every car.

Where does my car go after a Hilltop tow, and how is it priced?

Tell us where it should go: your mechanic, a dealer, your house or one of our partner repair shops. Since the yard is so close, a car that needs to wait for a shop can sit in our Harrisburg Pike lot for the daily storage rate. The dispatcher quotes the whole job from our rate card before the driver hooks up, and you can pay with a card or with cash.
