Ohio Dominican towing and roadside service is what this page is about, for anyone stranded at or near Ohio Dominican University on the north side of Columbus. The campus sits at 1216 Sunbury Road in the 43219 ZIP code, on about 75 acres, and it serves a little over 1,250 students plus commuters, staff and guests at athletic events. When a car stays dark in one of the lots or quits on Sunbury Road, Roadside Towing & Recovery Inc answers (740) 812-9489 at any hour. We are a Columbus company that is independent of the university, and we bring the fix to your parking space when we can, or tow the car where you want it when we cannot. Prices come straight from our published rate card, so you know the cost before the truck leaves.

The lots, and how to describe them

Ohio Dominican's parking page names four areas. The Gold Lot is open to visitors, students, event guests, employees and permit holders with accessible placards. The gated White Lot is for resident students. The Black Lot needs special authorization, and the area by the President's Office is limited to accessible and two-hour spaces. Students may also use Panther Parkway and, in the evening, the Lower B lot.

Tell dispatch which of these you are in. If you are inside the gated White Lot, say so right away, because our driver may need someone to open the gate or meet the truck at the entrance. Add the car color and model and the closest building.

  • Gold Lot: visitors and most drivers
  • White Lot: gated, resident students
  • Black Lot: authorization required
  • Panther Parkway and Lower B (evenings)

Campus rules and what happens if your car is removed

The university requires every vehicle on campus, motorcycles included, to be registered and to display a permit. It lists fines, wheel immobilization with a $100 fee, and towing as possible outcomes for violations. If you come back and your car is gone, call ODU Public Safety at (614) 251-4700 first to learn what happened.

We are not the company that enforces campus parking, and we cannot release a car from another company's lot or from the city impound lot. Once you have the release, our impound towing service can move it to a shop or home. For city tows, read our guide on finding a towed car in Columbus.

A quick tip: before assuming a campus tow, walk the lot once more, since cars parked in similar rows of the Gold Lot are easy to mix up at night.

On-the-spot help and prices

Commuter cars that sit all day in the Gold Lot are prone to dead batteries in winter. A jump start includes a battery test and printed report, and if the battery is failing we offer mobile battery replacement right there. We also handle lockouts and tire changes.

Each of those costs a flat $75 plus en-route at $4 per mile from our yard. A light-duty tow is $4 a mile en-route, a $125 hook-up and $7 per loaded mile, with surcharges for highway, after-hours, weekend or large-vehicle calls listed on the rate card. Sunbury Road sits in our metro band, where a truck usually reaches most calls in 20 to 40 minutes, estimated rather than promised.

Visitors coming for a game or campus event should note that the Gold Lot is the one open to event guests, so that is usually where these calls come from. Share the section of the lot you are in and whether your car faces a building or the road.

When the car needs to leave campus

Sometimes a jump is not enough: a failed starter, a transmission warning or damage from a minor collision in the lot. In those cases we tow the car to the repair shop you choose, or home if you prefer to sort out repairs later. Tell dispatch the destination when you call so the driver can confirm the loaded mileage up front, since the per-mile charge only counts miles with your car on the truck.

If the car is an electric vehicle, say so. EVs are always towed with all four wheels off the ground, and a dead one gets a 12-volt jump first so it can shift into transport mode. For a car that simply ran out of fuel on Sunbury Road, fuel delivery is usually faster and cheaper than a tow. Waiting after an evening class? Stay somewhere well lit near the car and keep your phone on so the driver can call when close.

Ohio Dominican: common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer Ohio Dominican towing from the Gold Lot?

Yes. The Gold Lot is where most visitors and commuters park, and we can jump, unlock, change a tire or tow from there. Call (740) 812-9489 and tell dispatch the lot name, your car details and the nearest building. Towing follows our published rate card, starting with en-route at $4 a mile and a $125 hook-up.

Do you work for Ohio Dominican University?

No. We are an independent company and have no affiliation with Ohio Dominican University or its Public Safety department. We do not enforce campus parking. Anyone on or near campus can call us directly, and we charge the same posted prices we use everywhere else in the Columbus area. There is no membership to buy first.

Can your truck get into the gated White Lot?

The White Lot is gated for resident students, so the driver may need you or Public Safety to open it. Mention the gate when you call, and plan to meet the truck at the entrance if you can. If the car is parked tight, we may pull it out with a wheel-lift before working on it.

My car was towed or booted on campus. Can you help?

Call ODU Public Safety at (614) 251-4700 first, since the university's parking rules list immobilization and towing as penalties and that office can tell you what happened. We cannot remove a boot or release a car from another company's lot. After you have the release, we can tow the car from that lot to a mechanic or your home. Keep the release paperwork with you.

What does a jump start cost at ODU?

A jump start is a flat $75 plus en-route at $4 per mile from our yard, and it includes a battery test with a printed report. If the test shows the battery is failing, we can install a replacement in the parking space. Surcharges on the rate card may apply for late-night or weekend calls.

How fast can you get to Sunbury Road?

Most calls in the Columbus metro are reached in 20 to 40 minutes, and outer communities in 40 to 60. That range is an estimate rather than a promise, and traffic can change it. Give dispatch an exact location on campus or on Sunbury Road so the driver does not lose time searching.
