Northland is the large stretch of northeast Columbus east of I-71 and inside the I-270 outerbelt, with Morse Road as its main commercial corridor and Karl Road running north through its subdivisions. Much of it went up in the 1950s and 1960s, from the ranches and split-levels of Forest Park to the Cape Cods of Clinton Estates. Northland Mall opened at Morse and Karl in 1964, closed in 2002 and is now Northland Village, home to state and county offices, a Menards, a Kroger and the county dog shelter. We tow from driveways, apartment lots and the Morse Road strip, and trucks from our Harrisburg Pike yard usually reach Northland in 20–40 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How does your truck reach Northland from the southwest side?

Most runs go up I-71 through downtown and leave at exit 116 for Morse Road and Sinclair Road, which drops the truck right onto the corridor. Addresses farther north near East Dublin-Granville Road are closer to exit 117 for State Route 161, and the northern subdivisions can also be reached from I-270. Give dispatch the street and nearest cross street, such as Karl Road, Maize Road or Sandalwood Place, and say whether you are at a house, an apartment complex or a store lot.

My car won't start in the Northland Village lot. Which building should I tell the driver?

Be as specific as you can, because the old mall site is now several separate destinations. The former Lazarus holds Ohio Department of Taxation offices, the rebuilt JCPenney houses the Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services and the Northland Performing Arts Center, Menards stands where Sears was, and a Kroger that opened in 2016 fills the old central concourse. The Franklin County Dog Shelter is at 4340 Tamarack Boulevard. Name the building and the side of the lot, and a jump start or tire change usually happens right in the space.

Our street in Forest Park is a loop or a court. Will the driver find it?

Yes, with a little help. Forest Park has about 132 streets and courts, many named for trees, and most homes sit on quiet side streets, courts or loops off Karl Road, Sandalwood Place or Tamarack Boulevard. Tamarack Circle, the large roundabout at the center of Forest Park East, makes a handy reference point. Nearly all the houses have attached or enclosed garages, so tell dispatch if the car is inside one; our wheel-lift truck can pull a car from a garage and out to the street.

What should I do if I break down on I-71 or I-270 near Northland?

I-71 forms Northland's western side and I-270 wraps around the north and east, and both carry heavy truck traffic. Pull onto the right shoulder or take the next ramp, turn the flashers on and stay strapped in behind the wheel instead of standing near the lanes. If the car stops where traffic cannot get around it, or anyone is injured, call 911 first. Then give us the highway, your direction and the nearest exit, such as Morse Road or State Route 161 on I-71.

I manage an apartment complex off Morse Road. Can you remove cars that don't belong?

Yes, once your lot has towing signs that meet Ohio's posting rules. We handle private-property towing for complexes and shopping lots, photographing and logging every vehicle so you have a record if a resident disputes it. A car that is blocking a driveway or parked illegally on a public street is a matter for the Columbus Division of Police, so residents should use the non-emergency line for those. Signs have to be in place before any removal, and we can explain what Ohio requires if yours are missing or outdated.

Where can you take my car from Northland, and what does it cost?

Anywhere that suits you: a shop on Morse Road or Karl Road, a dealership, one of our partner repair shops or your own driveway. Longer trips, such as out to Westerville or across town, are quoted the same way. If the shop is full, the car can stay at our Harrisburg Pike lot at the per-day rate until there is room. Dispatch works out the full price from our rate card before the tow, and you can pay by card or cash.
