Engine Tune-Ups in Columbus, OH

A properly tuned engine idles smoothly, starts on the first crank, and burns fuel the way it was designed to. Spark plugs, ignition coils, filters, and fuel injectors all wear gradually enough that you stop noticing — until the car hesitates on the on-ramp. Partner shops in the Alpha Automotive network follow the manufacturer's service intervals rather than a one-size-fits-all package.

A tune-up at a partner shop is more than new plugs. The shop checks ignition coils and wires, engine and cabin air filters, the fuel filter, and the PCV valve, and can run compression and fuel-trim checks if the engine is misfiring. You get a written estimate before work begins, and the shop backs its work under its own warranty terms.

Franklin County has no emissions test, so nobody here needs a tune-up to pass an inspection — but a misfire or a lean condition still triggers the check-engine light and still costs you at the pump. VIP members get service reminders through the CONVINI app, and if a rough-running engine strands you, Roadside Towing & Recovery Inc tows you to the shop under the same tier terms as any other repair.

What partner shops do

  • Spark Plug Replacement: Manufacturer-specified plugs — copper, platinum, or iridium — installed at the correct gap and torque.

  • Air Filter Replacement: Engine and cabin air filter replacement for clean airflow and proper combustion.
  • Fuel System Cleaning: Injector cleaning and throttle-body service to restore fuel delivery and idle quality.
  • Compression Testing: Cylinder compression and leak-down testing to confirm internal engine health when a misfire persists.
  • Emissions-System Diagnosis: Oxygen sensors, EVAP leaks, and catalyst-efficiency codes that light the check-engine light — relevant even though Franklin County has no emissions test.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I get a tune-up?

Follow your owner's manual. Many modern engines with iridium or platinum plugs go 60,000–100,000 miles between plug changes; older copper plugs need attention around 30,000. Filters and fuel-system service have their own intervals.

Will a tune-up improve my gas mileage?

If worn plugs, a clogged air filter, or dirty injectors were dragging it down, yes — how much depends on how far out of tune the engine was. A tune-up will not fix mileage lost to a mechanical problem, which is why the shop diagnoses first.

How long does a tune-up take?

Roughly one to two hours for a four-cylinder and two to three for a V6 or V8, depending on how accessible the plugs are. The shop quotes the time with the estimate.

Do partner shops tune up diesel engines?

Some do — glow plugs, fuel filters, and injection-system cleaning. Tell our dispatcher what you drive and we will route you to a shop that services diesels.
