Harrison West lies between Harrison Avenue and Olentangy River Road, from Goodale Street up to Fifth Avenue, and since 2008 it has included Thurber Village on its southeast corner. Many of its houses were built by craftsmen for workers at nearby factories, and brick streets remain part of its character. The Olentangy River and its recreation trail run along the west side, with State Route 315 just beyond. Our work here is mostly driveway and curbside jobs, dead batteries after a trip to the dog park, and cars that quit on SR-315. From the Harrisburg Pike yard, trucks usually get to Harrison West in 20–40 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How does a truck from the southwest side get to Harrison West?

It is one of our more direct runs. The driver takes State Route 315 north along the river and leaves at the Goodale Street connector onto Olentangy River Road, which borders the neighborhood's west side, then turns east into the grid of numbered avenues toward your street. That puts a truck at most doors in 20–40 minutes. When you call, name the avenue and the nearest cross street, and mention if you are down in Thurber Village near the southeast corner, since it joined the neighborhood only in 2008 and some callers do not think of it as Harrison West.

Will towing on Harrison West's brick streets scratch my car or tear up the road?

Neither should happen. Brick pavers are uneven and can be slick when wet, so the driver sets the truck on the flattest section, chocks the wheels and loads slowly. Low sports cars, lowered trucks and all-wheel-drive models ride on a flatbed with soft straps, so nothing drags over the bricks. For a car squeezed between two others at the curb, a wheel-lift with dollies can ease it out without needing the length a flatbed takes. Tell dispatch about any body kit or low spoiler.

My car won't start after a walk at Wheeler Memorial Park. What should I do?

Call and tell us you are at Wheeler Park on Thurber Drive West, one block west of Neil Avenue, where the four-acre fenced dog park sits in the southern half of the neighborhood. Keep the dog leashed or in the car away from the truck while the driver works. Most of these calls are a flat battery or keys locked inside, both handled right in the lot with a jump start or our lockout tools. A tow is only needed when the car still refuses to run.

My car broke down on SR-315 beside Harrison West. How do I stay safe?

Route 315 runs along the Olentangy on the neighborhood's western side and carries fast traffic, so pull as far right as you can or take the next ramp if the car will still move. Hazard lights on, belt on, and stay in the seat. Dial 911 first when the car is blocking a live lane. Once you are out of danger, tell our dispatcher your direction and the closest exit, such as Goodale or King Avenue, and we will send an emergency tow.

A car keeps parking across my Harrison West driveway. Can you haul it off?

Only the police can remove a car from a public street or alley in Columbus, so the first step is the Columbus Division of Police non-emergency line. We do not tow from city streets at a neighbor's request. Private lots belonging to apartment complexes or businesses are different: with signs that meet Ohio requirements, the owner can have unauthorized cars removed, and we offer that private-property towing service. The Harrison West Society is also a good place to raise ongoing parking problems.

What happens to my car after the Harrison West pickup, and how is it billed?

We deliver it where you ask, whether that is your curb, a dealer, a trusted mechanic or one of our partner shops. If you need a night to decide, it can be stored at the Harrisburg Pike yard for a daily rate and moved later. The dispatcher reads you the price from our rate card before the job starts, so the total is known up front. We take cash, credit and debit, and every customer gets an itemized receipt for reimbursement claims.
